Reformed gang members AKA ‘The Interrupters’, still respected by their former gangs, locate potentially lethal, ongoing conflicts and respond with a variety of life saving conflict mediation techniques both to prevent imminent violence and to change the norms around the need to use violence.
Outreach
CeaseFire employs a strong outreach component to change the norms and behaviour of high-risk, gang affiliated individuals by offering counselling for job training, drug abuse, rejecting the use of violence and an immediate ‘in-hospital’ response to a gang incident to prevent retaliation.
Change
With the access acquired by ‘The Interrupters’ and programs offered by partners and outreach workers, CeaseFire is able to change the lives of vulnerable children before it’s too late, young gang members who have been misled and prevent violent action through gang mediations.
